Earthworms first crawled out of the underground in 2004 via the wildly underrated St. Louis hip-hop scene. Mathias, Black Patrick, Kama and DJ Mahf released three full-length albums and packed in a world of experiences into the seven years that followed.

In the process, they cultivated a sample-heavy, melodically structured sound that brought critical acclaim and a large fan base, leading to tours across the United States and Europe and a coveted booking at SXSW. Earthworms’ relationship with indie trailblazers F5 Records landed them international distribution with the Orchard, putting their records on shelves from Japan to Germany. The original lineup hung it up in 2011, but the story doesn’t end there.

Fast forward to 2022, and a reinvigorated Earthworms (now Mathias, Black Patrick and DJ Mahf) joined forces with producer Doug Surreal to create Garden in the Ruins, their first full-length since 2010. The album shows a crew looking forward — and finding new, vital creative energy in the darkness of our times.

Riding the momentum from Garden in the Ruins, Earthworms are finishing 2023 strong with “Comfortable,” a collaboration with Daemon.
